If we only had a day in Dorking as a music lover, this is what we’d do. ![]()
Because Dorking has so much to offer if you’re a music fan – vinyl, live music, history and more. So let’s turn it up to 11! ![]()
Start at Spin Sounds on South Street and get stuck into some proper independent record store shopping. Flick through the vinyl, look for a classic CD and get some recommendations from their music-loving team.
Then there’s something you might not know about Dorking’s musical history… The blue plaque marking the former Strawberry Studios South. Founded by 10cc in 1976, the studios welcomed artists including Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder (bonus points if you comment with the song they recorded here!), as well as Cliff Richard and the Ramones. And the plaque was unveiled by members of 10cc themselves! Find it at Chartwood Place, South Street, Dorking.
You’ll find even more music at Talbot House antique shop with their vintage record collection. Old classics and sing-along favourites – it’s a lyrical lucky dip, and you never know what you might find!
All that record shopping and musical history calls for dinner! Head to Aroma and check out their brand new menu, with plenty of delicious Italian dishes to choose from before the evening’s entertainment.
And we’re finishing on a high note at The Kings Arms on West Street! Grab yourself a drink, get yourself in front of the band and enjoy a great night of live music.
But it doesn’t end there…
Dorking Museum has a brand new winter exhibition dedicated to Strawberry Studios South. Marking 50 years of chart-topping music produced right here in Dorking, it explores the story of the studios, from 1930s cinema to best-selling albums.
