Dorking has thrown its hat in the ring for Town of Culture 2028.  Our application was submitted by the deadline and now we just wait and see what the outcome is.
Some things that stood out to us as we went through the survey responses and put the application together were: –
  1. There is a lot of cultural activity going on already and there are opportunities to showcase that more
  2. There are some fabulous and ambitious ideas in our community that actually don’t necessarily need a Town of Culture investment to happen.
With the above in mind we don’t want to wait to see whether we get to the next stage or not, we feel there is value in getting our community together now, to build links across groups that could potentially help each other, and to decide how we might progress some of the ideas shared. To see how this can be furthered we are having an inaugural meeting of a Dorking Cultural Forum.
Dorking Inaugural Cultural Forum Meeting
Tuesday 30th June 6:15 – 7:45pm
Pippbrook House (behind the Council Offices), Reigate Road, Dorking
There will be a welcome drink on arrival, followed by a short presentation of the Town of Culture survey results and then a chance to share some ideas and decide how we may proceed from here.
