Dorking’s new Banking Hub at Mole Valley District Council, offering cash and banking services for local businesses and residents.

Dorking Banking Hub is now open in its temporary home inside Mole Valley District Council, Pippbrook, Reigate Road, RH4 1SJ

Banking Hubs are delivered by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit company funded by major banks. Their work is part of a collective approach to protecting access to cash. They provide shared services in communities where they are needed most.

Last year, the organisation officially opened the UK’s 100th banking hub. The new hub in Dorking is the second to open in Surrey, with another recently announced.

Convenient and good for the local economy

Offering easy access to face-to-face banking and cash in the heart of communities, Banking Hubs are a huge help for people who – for whatever reason – prefer in-person services to online banking.

They’re great for business customers too.

At Dorking’s Banking Hub, customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. There is also a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub.

This can help you run your business by paying in cash or cheques, withdrawing money and getting change when you need it, without having to travel to a different area. This isn’t just convenient. It’s good for the local economy too.

Keeping cash in the community

Cash Access UK recently undertook new research to understand how the opening of Banking Hubs have improved local high streets.

In surveys with two communities where hubs have opened, three in 10 respondents said they visit and spend more on their local high street because they have a Banking Hub. Almost half (47%) of businesses surveyed said they have experienced an increase in footfall thanks to the Banking Hub. This is despite the fact that, UK wide, weekday footfall has fallen 18% compared with pre-Covid levels.

While the hub is up and running today, Cash Access UK can confirm it is currently working to secure a permanent home for the Banking Hub. In the coming months, they will provide updates on their website and the hub will remain open in the Pippbrook until the permanent hub is up and running.
