South Street Gallery in Dorking, Surrey with artwork displayed in the windows
Published On: October 26, 2026

If we only had a day in Dorking as an art lover, this is what we’d do.

Because there’s art everywhere in our town – in galleries, shops, books, pubs and plenty of places in between.

So here’s your itinerary:

📚 Start at Waterstones where High Street meets South Street and pick up a copy of ‘To Those Who Speak’ by Dorking artist and Sunday Times bestselling author Luke Adam Hawker. Beautifully illustrated throughout, it’s a truly local way to begin!

☕ But don’t just put the book in your bag! Take some time and stroll over the road to coffee shop Harts in the Yard. Tucked into the Old Kings Head courtyard, get yourself a coffee and a treat, find a table and give yourself a little time to turn those pages.

🖼️ Before you leave the courtyard, pop into the John Arthur Gallery. There’s artwork filling the walls and plenty to stop and look at – another perfect pocket of creativity right in the centre of Dorking.

🖌️ Then head along South Street to South Street Gallery. There’s more artwork on the walls here, alongside their expert picture-framing service – so if you have a favourite print, painting or something precious that’s been waiting for the right frame, this is the place to bring it.

🍷 The day doesn’t end there though – get yourself to The Star on West Street for even more! Order yourself a drink and take a look around because the walls are full of art. Even the tables have their own artwork, so sit back and take it all in.

🎨Another great way of exploring art in the town is to follow our Art Trail. Click here to download a trail sheet or pop into SC Fuller’s for one. It will show you lots of amazing street art our town is blessed with.

There are so many different ways to spend a day in Dorking – you just have to know where to start.

And we’ve got plenty more Dorking days to share with you so make sure you’re following along for inspiration.
