As soon as you walk into Ali’s beautiful shop you step back in time to the Seljukian and Ottoman empires, with the most dazzling display of lights!
It is with great pleasure that Dorking Town Partnership welcomes Ali and his Emporium to Dorking High Street.
We quickly learn there is no stopping Ali! He first arrived in the UK in 1970. In 1974 he had a chain of 36 cafes, sandwich bars and restaurants from Old Street to Mayfair.
In 2008 Ali sold his own empire and moved back to Turkey, where he dipped his toe into the construction business, building beautiful villas and apartments. With retirement on his mind, Ali returned to the UK only to discover that slowing down wasn’t the life choice he was after!
Three months ago Ali opened the doors to his colourful and inspiring Emporium. Selling handmade products from rugs, cushions to lighting and all of Turkish design.
This shop is well worth a visit. You will find the most amazing and original products and gift ideas, ideal for Christmas!
Ali loves talking about the history behind the beautiful designs, which stretch over millenniums. We finish our history lesson with talk of the ‘Angel Eye’ which is to ward off evil spirits.
