From 2 October 2020 (extended to 22 April 2022) Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) working with Dorking Town Partnership will offer free parking every Friday from 3pm in St Martin’s Walk, Wathen Road, Southside and West Street car parks.

The Park for Free after Three initiative, funded by Dorking Town Partnership, will encourage residents to shop locally and support the town’s businesses. Tickets are not needed during the free parking periods.

Philip Downer, Managing Director of Calliope Gifts, who is also a member of Dorking Town Partnership, described the initiative as “a gateway to the weekend for anybody who wants to hold a business meeting or visit the shops, and perhaps stay on for a drink and meal into the evening. We’re very happy that Dorking Town Partnership and MVDC are able to deliver this benefit for Dorking’s businesses, residents and visitors – we’re all in this together!

Councillor Clayton Wellman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy, said: “It is important that we encourage everyone to support the local economy during these challenging times. There is a fantastic range of interesting shops to explore in Dorking, and characterful cafes, pubs and restaurants to try.

Parking has always been free all day Sunday and on bank holidays in all our car parks, and we currently have 41 free 30-minute parking spaces across Mole Valley.

We will also soon be announcing the dates of Mole Valley’s Christmas free parking days.

There are posters advertising Park for Free after Three on MVDC’s parking machines. If money is accidentally inserted during the free periods, it will be divided between the Chairman’s charities, Leatherhead Youth ProjectBelong and PSDS.
