We are the local member of the National organisation, the u3a, representing Dorking and the surrounding villages. We are affiliated to the Surrey u3a Network and support the activities of the South East u3a Forum. Membership of a u3a is open to all ‘in their third age’, which is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life when full-time employment has ceased. Members of a u3a promote the values of lifelong learning and the positive attributes of belonging to a u3a. We have over 640 members, and offer over an ever-expanding list of over 50 groups who meet at a variety of times and locations locally, throughout the week.

Groups are a mix of cerebral, practical and active pastimes, and we encourage members to take to activities that they have long had an interest in but with little or no time to get involved in, or which they just wish to spend more time doing. The Groups cover activities such as current Issue discussions, environmental issues, languages, genealogy, wine tasting, gardening, photography, bowls, badminton, art for pleasure, dance, pilates, cards and other board games … to name but a few!

We also run day outings and short residential trips around GB, have a monthly talk on a wide range of topics, and each month send out a Newsletter of up and coming events to all members.

Contact our Secretary to request a Handbook, or check out our website for fuller information.
