FAQ
Hello Dorking is essentially synonymous with the Dorking BID (Business Improvement District). This branding allows us to establish a distinct identity and convey that we’re more than just a group of businesses. Our primary goal is to serve as the central hub of community life in Dorking, fostering connections between businesses, residents, and visitors to enhance everyone’s experience in the town.
Simply put, your participation amplifies our collective voice and influence, enabling us to enact real change and make Dorking a destination, rather than just a dot on the map. We provide invaluable resources, from marketing expertise to project funding, that can help your business reach new heights.
All levy payments received are invested into the growth of Dorking through a variety of measures. Funds are allocated meticulously to support key initiatives, from public safety measures and cleanliness drives to marketing campaigns that elevate Dorking’s profile both locally and nationally.
An elected Board of Directors, made up of local business owners and key stakeholders, is responsible for steering Hello Dorking. This ensures that the decisions made are rooted in deep local understanding and aligned with the community’s best interests.
Our commitment to transparency means we track key performance indicators across a range of metrics – from increased footfall and business growth to community engagement levels. You can find our KPIs in our business plan. All findings are reported weekly to the BID Chair, and monthly to the BID Board.
The five-year plan focuses on a four pillar approach: community building using digital and tech innovation; implementing creative campaigns; developing consultative and community-driven placemaking programmes; providing outcomes-driven business support and training. Each pillar will have specific projects and key objectives designed to offer a measurable impact on Dorking’s economy and quality of life.
We’re pleased to have a dedicated section on this topic, detailing various avenues for participation. Your engagement is not just welcome, but also essential in shaping our collective journey.
Absolutely. While businesses are our primary focus, we believe in community-wide involvement. There are various ways for residents and even visitors to contribute, whether it’s by volunteering or participating in community polls to shape upcoming initiatives.
