SUMMARY:Pippbrook House - Halloween Entertainment
DESCRIPTION:Pippbrook House has a few skeletons in its closet… And this Halloween\, you’re invited to see them. \nBecause Dorking Halls is inviting you inside for two evenings of suitably spooky entertainment! \nFriday 30 October\, 7.30pm – Vampirology: The Science of Horror’s Most Famous Fiend \nJoin Dr Kathryn Harkup for a fascinating look at the science and stories behind vampires. From frightening folklore and blood-sucking bats to the sinister science behind Dracula\, this promises to be a rather different sort of Halloween history lesson! \nSaturday 31 October\, 7.30pm – The Others \nNicole Kidman stars in this chilling 2001 mystery drama about a mother protecting her two children in an isolated mansion where all might not be quite as it seems. And we can’t think of a more fitting place to watch it than the Gothic surroundings of Pippbrook House! \nTwo nights\, two ways to celebrate Halloween\, and one building with a spooky reputation of its own. \nBut before the entertainment\, the legend… \nWatch out when you arrive… there is a ghostly butler that watches passers-by from the upstairs windows. \nWhen you’re inside look out as you pass the staircase\, it’s haunted by a mysterious Grey Lady. \nAnd beware the angry poltergeist that has been known to throw knives down the stairs! \nIt’s an atmospheric setting for a Halloween night out – are you brave enough to go inside?! \nBoth events are presented by Dorking Halls at Pippbrook House – book your tickets through the Dorking Halls website. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Pilgrim's Way Film Screening & Talk
DESCRIPTION:A film screening of the 1956 documentary film Pilgrim’s Way (certificate U) and a talk by Mandy Bright\, a North Downs Way Ambassador \nAn epic ramble from Winchester to Canterbury\, through Hampshire\, Surrey and Kent with picnics\, pints and much prettiness on the way \nTighten your laces and pack your mint cake as this one is a bit of a trek. The 120-miles between Winchester and Canterbury pass through some of the south-east England’s prettiest towns\, villages and pastures. Between 1956 and today plenty has changed\, but despite the narrator’s grumblings about urban encroachment much is timeless. Like a good hike\, the film is not a race and takes its time to pause and wonder at its surroundings. \nHalfway through the film there are some great scenes of a mass pilgrimage through the streets of Guildford to the site of the new Cathedral. The event\, which took place on the 4th April 1955\, marked the much delayed start of the construction of the nave\, and was clearly a celebratory occasion for the town and its surroundings. \nThe film screening will be followed by a talk about the history of the route by Mandy Bright\, a North Downs Way Ambassador. \nThis film is part of Heritage Open Days and Walking Week \n

SUMMARY:Dorking Businesses Steps Challenge
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Hello Dorking Walking Week 2026 we are inviting businesses to take part in a Steps Challenge. \nWe know how tempting it can be to not leave our desk when we’re busy so we’re encouraging all businesses to take part in our Steps Challenge between Saturday 19th – Sunday 27th September. The idea is to encourage you to get out for a break and a walk during the day\, track your steps and to make it more interesting you can enter our steps competition too. \nHow it will work\n\nThe challenge will take place between Saturday 19th – Sunday 27th September.\nGet teams of 4 together from your business  (you can enter more than one team if you have more than 4 people wanting to take part) and drop jo@hellodorking.com a message to say you are taking part.\nTo track your steps you can either use our app below or track your steps using your own fitness trackers. All steps count\, before\, during or after your work day.\nIf you want to do it via the app click here https://join.thestepupapp.com/v9BE. It will prompt you to download the app and then join the group. Please enter your name and business name so we know who is with who.\nIf you are using your own fitness tracker please take screenshots of your steps on the dates above and send to jo@hellodorking.com by Wednesday 29th September.\nWe will then announce the winning team and also the winning individual the week commencing 5th October.\n\nTo help you get some steps in we have created a blog on some lunchtime walks you can do from the town centre – Lunchtime Walks in Dorking Town Centre – Hello Dorking. There are some stunning views and history you can experience just a couple of steps from the High Street. \nAnother great way to get some extra steps in is to join our Netwalking Event on Tuesday 22nd September – Dorking Netwalking with Hello Dorking and Mole Valley Chamber. \nMany thanks for your participation and please do tag us in any photos on social media @hellodorking
